The nine studies collected in this book are all original analyses of Milton's epic style. Historical and textual in approach, they closely examine the language of Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained in three major respects: formula, rhetoric and the Word. The author's main concern is to explain the meaning of the epics in light of Renaissance rhetoric and theology.
