FPGA kit implementation based on the Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees coding algorithm and Discrete Wavelet Transform is used for the compression of images. It uses natural severance among wavelet coefficients and it is right for both gray and color images. The SPIHT algorithm offers considerably improved quality over other image compression techniques. It arranges the wavelet coefficients according to a significant test and stores this information in new sheet. Using the pixel values of an input image, the image is decomposed into four sub bands using DWT. Then, the decomposed image is compressed using SPIHT code. The compressed image thus obtained is implemented using FPGA kit. SPIHT has a simple coding method and requires no processing tables. These make SPIHT coding is a more suitable algorithm for FPGA kit implementation operation. The future scope of this module is that the quality of the image can be further improved with high peak signal to noise ratio value using some other compression techniques. This method can be further enhanced by the implementation of Field Programmable Gate Array kit.
