What do you do when your body can no longer house the brutalities of the life you have lived? This book is for readers who have experienced the darkness of trauma. It is also for those who want to better understand the impact of trauma on survivors. Collectively, our co-creators confronted and then freed what had long been frozen inside of us. Our stories are now held within this book, and our bodies are lighter. We have experienced profound pain. We are not afraid of confronting this pain; rather, we are terrified of what might happen if we don't. Some of us are poets, some are visual artists, and some combined both gifts as we dug for and then dragged our wounds into the light to be seen, felt, and released. Ten artists created eighteen works of art each for this anthology. We met regularly to support one another as we created and healed, both individually and collectively. Each artist's chapter is divided into three sections: six works that represent the root wounds of their Past, six works that represent how that root wound continues to show up in their Present, and six works that represent the hope found in the transmutation of their past and present into their triumphant Possible, where the light of hope is found. Each chapter of our book represents an individual's study of light and dark. That which forms us, and is formed by us. That which has been, is, and will be-that which was once frozen, and is now free. In this transformative and empowering anthology, you will find: * Ten chapters by ten different artists who worked collectively and individually to transmute their pain into their power through creativity * Creative, powerful explorations of trauma, its impact on the feminine, and its collective impact on us all * Raw, unfiltered vulnerability that opens a path toward empathy and an understanding of the feminine experience in a patriarchal society * Inspiration to embark on your unique path from pain to power through intentional transmutational creative expression Find out more about our anthology at www.freeingourfrozensongs.com.
Autorenporträt
Kirsten Fountain (she/her) wholeheartedly taught middle school and high school social studies for sixteen of her twenty-six years as a passionate educator. She then transitioned to instructional coaching and professional development, first for her school district, and later for multiple districts in her region. Like her grandmother and mother before her, being an educator is a part of who she is, and she is so much more. Above all, Kirsten is a connector. She understands that each person is talented and creative in their own unique way and seeks to discover how to encourage those she loves to cultivate their unique gifts to support their growth. More than anything, reciprocity in relationship, teaching, and growth excites and inspires her. Kirsten is currently curating a life filled with love, connection, and care in a cozy cottage in beautiful southern Oregon with her soulmate, Tim, and their three cuddly cats. She is now focusing full-time on healing physically, emotionally, and spiritually after a lifetime of codependency, perfectionism, shame spirals, anxiety, and various health impacts of complex PTSD resulting from childhood abandonment and abuse. Poetry and photography, along with therapy, have been keys to unlocking her healing. She has the honor and joy of being the mother of Kaiden, the child who became her greatest gift and teacher. Kirsten was thrilled and humbled that Kaiden joined her on this healing journey, creating the chapter prior to her own. They continue to heal together with unconditional love and grace.
