In the dynamic industry of international shipping, freight forwarders are known to be "The Architects of Transport". Thus, Ethiopian's freight forwarding industry has significantly developed with the introduction of multi-modal transport of goods and containerization which revolutionized the shipping industry. However, Ethiopia lacks a comprehensive legal regime to govern this area. The existing governing laws hardly reflect the actual legal status of freight forwarders in the shipping industry. This book scrutinizes and deliberates the legal status of the freight forwarder under Ethiopian legal regime with a comparative analysis of the international legal framework on freight forwarders. Contracts for Carriage of Goods, UNCTAD/ICC Rules, Multi-Modal Transport, the Rotterdam Rules and FIATA Model Rules are addressed in different chapters of the book.
