Gerry Souter ha conseguito il suo diploma presso l'Institute of Art di Chicago e ha poi proseguito gli studi in arte presso l'Università di Chicago. Artista egli stesso, Souter ha esposto i suoi dipinti e le sue fotografie all'Institute of Art di Chicago, al Phoenix Art Museum e in numerose altre gallerie. Autore professionista, ha scritto più di venti libri dal 1997, molti dei quali hanno avuto un enorme successo. I suoi continui studi di storia dell'arte e di architettura, la precisione della sua scrittura e la sua esperienza visiva aggiungono un aspetto dinamico allo studio della vita degli artisti e alla descrizione delle loro opere, mantenendo il lettore affascinato, pagina dopo pagina.
