'From A Dying Empire Near You' is a collection of over 25 poems that capture the state of decay that many 'advanced' civilisations seem to find themselves in. It invites the reader to ask not only what their own role has been in allowing the current state of affairs to be perpetuated, but also how we can rediscover the humanity lost from ourselves and lost from those around us.

I'm Tom Shaw: a poet and writer, with a background in Dental Sciences and technology, based in the UK. Through poetry and writing, I am focused on pushing our current culture towards a more harmonious, soulful and meaningful state. I began publishing my poetry via Over To The Youth - a youth organisation I help lead, which looks to empower young people to become the leaders they need to be for the next generation. Following the success of my poem, "What Do I Want For Christmas?", which was read aloud at the World Council for Health's Better Way Live presentation on 18th December 2023, I begun an independent venture to further my use of poetry in communicating ideas around the condition of our culture, and on overcoming the control narratives present within society and ourselves.
