This atmospheric novel blends elements of mystery, the supernatural, and psychological suspense. Set in a secluded English manor, the story revolves around a group of guests, one of whom is haunted by guilt and the eerie presence of the past. As tensions rise, secrets are revealed, and ghostly occurrences unsettle the characters. Lowndes masterfully combines a ghost story with a psychological exploration of fear and moral consequence.
