Award-winning travel writer Jane Wooldridge answers an age-old question in this book: How can one visit pristine, soul-stirring nature destinations without giving up any of the comforts that make a vacation a vacation? She’s picked over 100 eye-candy destinations—deep jungles, arctic icescapes, bucolic farmlands, stark deserts, remote islands, and more—and, with gentle humor and deep insight, gives readers the whys and hows of visiting. Alongside the text, dozens of vivid photos showcase these special places as well as the design-forward resorts, ships, glamping communities, and other lodgings that provide hospitality in the wild. Evocative images range from close-ups of wildlife on African savannahs, to monks going about their business in Bhutan, to desert landscapes deep in Egypt and Jordan, to polar bears prowling the ice in the islands of Svalbard. Not only a book to dream on, ‘Comfort in the Wild’ will help readers create enriching, authentic adventures of their own.
