Ser hijo de militar, habiendo vivido en Carolina del Norte, Hawái, Carolina del Sur, Maine y Oklahoma, lo colocó en la posición de tener que comprometerse, conocer y entender a las personas. El rumbo de su infancia podría haberlo llevado por la vía de las drogas y el alcohol, solo para mitigar los ruidos del dolor interior.
