This book provides an overview of Fyodor Drushinin's personality, the development of the viola as an instrument in Russia, the distinctive features of the Russian viola school and the differences between Russian and European approaches. This is followed by a methodical analysis of the Sonata for Solo Viola, which, in conjunction with the history of Soviet music, provides a different perspective on Fyodor Drushinin as one of the best violists of his time, both in Russia and worldwide. The relationship and deep connection between the development of the viola as an instrument and the development of classical music in Russia is also highlighted.
