At its heart, Garden Tools reminds us of what it means to tend to life-aware of the moon at dusk, the eyes of a child, a walk in the woods, and the impermanence of our place in the world, and the brevity of life. In this collection of poems, writer David W. Berner observes the richness in the everyday, the glory of nature, the magnificence in the ordinary, and the mystery that is the human spirit. Through curious eyes, Berner keenly notices the delicate nuances among the seemingly mundane and the abundant mysteries of nature, of the divine, and the beauty of being wholly awake to the magic that is often hiding in shaded corners. David W. Berner writes inside a small writing shed on his property outside Chicago. Garden Tools is his first collection of poems.
David W. Berner is the author of several award-winning books of memoir and fiction, including The Islander, A Well-Respected Man, and Daylight Saving Time. He's received honors from the Chicago Writers Association, the Society of Midland Authors, the Eric Hoffer Book Awards, and the American Book Fest, to name a few. He is a past associate professor at Columbia College Chicago, a long-time broadcast journalist at WBBM Radio in Chicago, and now teaches at the Gotham Writers Workshop. He is also a member of the Chicago Writers Association. Website: www.davidwberner.com
