The study theoretically addresses violence in dating relationships as one of the expressions of gender violence and draws attention to a problem of high magnitude and social significance in the field of human rights violations. The notion of gender allows us to consider, in addition to relations between the sexes, power and hierarchy relations, the meaning of bodies, and expectations regarding sexual practices. Experiences and discourse on sexuality are constructed based on gender relations, while at the same time always dialoguing with these relations, whether to maintain them as they are or to transform them. By relating sexuality and power, dating violence takes on asymmetrical practices with very different meanings for men and women. In this sense, the university, the locus of this research, as well as other contexts where gender relations are constructed and reconstructed, can foster the development of preventive actions, mainstreaming the internal and external debate on this topic.
