Francis Vinton Greene (1850-1921) was an American army officer, professor of artillery at West Point, police commissioner of New York, and military historian. As a volunteer in the Spanish-American War, he played a major combat role. He was also courageous in the Philippines, where he helped negotiate the surrender of Manila.
