This paper presents some discussions on assessment procedures applied in the Brazilian educational system at the federal, state, and municipal levels. The main focus is on the public policy that implemented the National Secondary Education Examination (ENEM), analysing its methodological and structural characteristics, as well as its objectives and government programmes linked to the examination. Finally, a classification of the Geography questions present in the ENEM was carried out, starting in 1998 and ending in 2013, following a subdivision of areas of the discipline adopted and presented throughout the work.
