For more than eighty years Giuseppe Prezzolini (1882-1982), an eccentric and non-aligned thinker, gave an example of moral and intellectual coherence with his writings. The contributions collected in the book delve into the figure of a journalist and writer who has always professed ideals of freedom and truth, opposing absolutism and showing impatience against the crisis of democracy. The appendix contains two of his articles dedicated to the city of Florence and his inhabitants, and two other texts taken from the volume The legacy of Italy (1948).
