Joseph W. Smith, a native of Philadelphia, PA, is a well-known fisheries biologist on the U.S. Atlantic and Gulf coasts. His educational journey includes a Bachelor's degree in Biology from St. Joseph University and a Master's in Marine Science from The College of William and Mary.Smith's career spans over three decades with NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, where he contributed significantly to menhaden fisheries research. An active saltwater sportfisherman and gardener, Smith continues to engage with the marine world post-retirement. He resides in Morehead City, NC with his wife, Rosemarie, and their family, continuing to inspire through his vast knowledge and experience.
