Marcellus Emants (1848-1923) was een Nederlandse schrijver die vooral bekend is van zijn roman Een nagelaten bekentenis. Aanvankelijk trad hij in de voetsporen van zijn vader door rechten te studeren, maar na het overlijden van zijn vader legde Emants zich toe op de kunsten. Hij maakte bovendien vele reizen naar voornamelijk de Alpen en schreef daar reisverhalen over. Zijn stijl is in de traditie van de Franse naturalisten, en hoewel hij zelf niet actief betrokken was bij de Tachtigers wordt zijn werk vaak tot die stroming gerekend.
