My journey back to the black church happened once I realized that God's church is already multi-ethnic. I moved from the black church because I was hungry for deeper teaching. I found the deeper teaching that I had been longing for at a Reformed Baptist Church that happened to be predominantly comprised of my white brothers and sisters. My new church actually had people from almost every nation, and I was convinced that this was how it was supposed to be, that is, until 2020, the year of COVID-19, the presidential election of Joe Biden, and the murder of George Floyd. Our very different responses to these events help expose not only our cultural differences but also how vastly different our perspectives on social and political issues are, leaving me feeling as if I were trying to wear a coat that doesn't fit.
