After his third season he underwent surgery on his right elbow, due to complications from the surgery, for the next two years he could not pitch at all. Once his arm healed the velocity on his fastball never completely returned. For the past seven seasons Charlie has been a player/coach in the minor leagues with the Myrtle Beach Seahawks. Charlie has pitched well during his years in Myrtle Beach, but the loss of velocity on his fastball has kept him from returning to the top of the game. At times he has shown the ability to pitch at the major league level again, but not consistently. His story is somewhat of a mystery.
