Produktbeschreibung
This book is an immersion in the work of Bahian expressionist Sante Scaldaferri. An artist who dives into the universe of popular manifestations, their most representative characters and objects, at a time of institutional rupture in 1964. Sante expresses a grotesque aesthetic of popular cut, positioning his brushstrokes around experiences devoid of socially established standards, relegating circumstances attributed to the celestial plane to the material plane, so that magical, fantastic and extraordinary experiences burst onto the support as part of the reality of popular culture. This research looks at three phases of Sante Scaldaferri's painting, covering the period from 1964 to 1988, observing the extent to which expressions of popular culture are accompanied by symbolic reactions to the Brazilian military dictatorship. "Grotesque Compositions: Popular Culture in the Paintings of Sante Scaldaferri" is a book that brings sociological analysis to pictorial aesthetics, contributing to studies on the sociology of art and, more specifically, the sociology of painting.
