Rabindra N. Prasad, aka "Taz"Rabindra N. Prasad, affectionately known as "Taz," is an environmental advocate, commercial fisherman, educator, and storyteller shaped by the beauty and challenges of the Guyana Shield. Born under the majestic bamboo clumps at Jackson Creek, a remote area nestled on the western bank of the mighty Corentyne River, Taz's early life began in a humble 'Manicole Palm' benab built by his father in the shadows of the Amazon. After completing his secondary and college education, Taz pursued a career as a science teacher, specializing in physics and environmental studies. However, his passion for the natural world extended beyond the classroom. His investments in fishing along the Atlantic coastline granted him unique insights into the struggles of fishermen battling poverty, piracy, and the relentless forces of nature in their pursuit of a livelihood from the sea.Through these experiences, Taz witnessed the destructive forces of ignorance, greed, and lawlessness, which compounded the hardships of life along the Amazon. He saw firsthand how uncontrolled hunting, fishing, and logging devastated ecosystems, and how entire bird species were eradicated by poachers. At the same time, Taz's heart was with the fisherfolk-ordinary people who faced unspeakable losses from piracy, mourning fathers, brothers, and loved ones who perished in the unforgiving Atlantic, often with no grave or headstone to honor their memory.Taz's life is a testament to resilience and purpose. He uses his experiences and stories to advocate for environmental conservation, sustainable practices, and justice for marginalized communities. Whether through his writing or his work on the water, Taz is dedicated to raising awareness, honoring the forgotten, and inspiring future generations to live in harmony with the natural world.
