Jessica Chappell Sumbury is a mother, daughter, sister, wife and artist. half dead women is her debut heart sharing of poetry that firmly roots down into the divine feminine dwelling inside all humanity, and unapologetically celebrates what it means to embody your whole self, shadow and all. Journaling for decades as a form of personal expression and emotional survival, Jessica's entries naturally and organically transformed into poems with the birth of her first child in 2019. Exploring the sacred Mother Archetype within us and all around us, Jessica's honest reflections and powerful imagery embrace her deeply personal journey into motherhood. Growing up in a rural town of northeastern Pennsylvania, traveling the country working on small organic farms after graduating college with a degree in art, and settling on the West Coast's rolling hills of Oregon to raise her own family, has given Jessica perspective on the various cultures within our culture. At our root, she feels a deep knowing that we are all searching for authentic connection with each other, our surroundings, and most importantly, ourselves. The cover and book art are prints (silkscreen and mezzotint) Jessica created in college, over a decade ago, waiting for their divine timing to be shared. These poems are a love letter to mothers and fathers, children, planet Earth, animals and our interconnectedness.
