Hare and the Proud King is a story set in an imaginary country where a proud king reigned over his inhabitants with great power. One day, before the assembly that he usually ruled, he asked a question that surprised the entire country. Can a woman who has never known a man have a child? Some refused to pay attention to what he said, others thought it was a joke. But the king wasn't joking; he never spoke empty words. So, to verify his assertions, he had his slaves build, far from all eyes, a huge hut filled with all kinds of food and drink... and placed the most beautiful girl in the country inside. In those days, wild animals lived in perfect harmony with humans and spoke to each other. Lëk Seen, who heard of Buur the King's statements, decided to teach him a lesson. To ensure the success of this undertaking, he had the Kaña brothers gather together. Serigne Fallou Diagne was born in Fatick, Senegal (West Africa), into a large family steeped in African traditions, of which his grandmother Aissata Bassy Wane was the most emblematic guardian. As one of the oldest in the neighborhood, she used to tell him and his brothers wonderful African stories every night, in which humans lived side by side with wild animals. Years later, when he went to university, he specialised in literature, marketing, became literate in their national language Wolof and deepened his knowledge of those tales and adages that the elders had been sharing with the younger generations since the dawn of time. Through these writings, the author is simply relaying this important and intangible wealth, whose main teaching is the wisdom and virtue that must guide mankind and above all youngsters in a world full of uncertainties.
