And Patrick's jilted fiancée Gloria, Chicago Joe's daughter and co-owner of the casino resort, holds a secret that could shatter not only his restoration plans but their marriage. But Patrick and Kitty are so sold on his vision and the estate's former charm, there is no turning back. As they investigate the feasibiity of restoring the Vicitiorian mansion, the are constantly assailed by others hidden within, who may be spirits, flesh and blood criminals, or both. Although Detective Sgt. Matthew O'Malley, who is called in to investigate the crime, advises them to give it up as hopeless, they persist with their plans to acquire the time-worn estate and restore it to its former glory.

PETER H. GREEN, a writer, architect and city planner, Peter found his father's 400 World War II letters, his humorous war stories, his mother's writings and his family's funny doings too good a tale to keep to himself, so he launched a second career as a writer. When the pandemic came along, Peter tackled a project he was afraid to put off any longer. While he still had his faculties, could remember his life and could sit up and take nourishment, he wrote his illustrated memoir, Becoming an Architect: My Voyage of Discovery. After retirement from a 40-year career as an architect and city planner, Peter has written and published several books. Three are biographical memoirs of his World War II-era family and three are architectural mysteries featuring architect-amateur sleuth, Patrick MacKenna. He lives in St. Louis with his wife Connie, has two married daughters and three very young grandchildren.
