Autorenporträt
A trained storyteller, educator, artist, and writer, Leilehua Yuen brings these skills and her love of her islands' history together in her pastiche series based on the Shelock Holmes canon. As a young girl, the daughter of working artists and storytellers, Yuen went back and forth between Hawai'i and California, as she had extended family in both places. She got used to traveling, performing, being around people who did things. When she was young, her parents went their separate ways and she remained in Hawai'i, where her father's parents helped raise her in the town of Hilo. Her t¿t¿-kane, her grandfather, was a physician and supported her interest in science. Many of the Kamaka Holmes scenes in which the teen sets up her laboratory and experiments are based on Yuen's own youthful activities.
