This book contains evidence-based description of the knowledge and practice of health-care workers regarding health care waste management (HCWM) and taken an account of the existing HCWM facilities in public sector of Tripura, a northeastern state of India. It was carried out during November 2015 to October 2017 among 544 health-care workers working in 30 health institutions of Tripura, chosen by stratified random sampling. About 37.68% of the health-care workers had fair knowledge regarding HCWM, 90% knew segregation of waste at source, 83.63% knew disinfection of waste before disposal, proper HCWM was practiced by 39.15% and segregation of waste at source into coloured bins was followed by 23.3% of the workers. HCWM facilities at the health centres including display of waste management policy were poor. Technical qualification and in-service training were found to be statistically significant determinants of knowledge and practice of HCWM.
