In this contemporary take on the classic Frankenstein tale, a young woman's life is turned upside down when she unwillingly becomes part of a sick experiment... Jolene Hall is dead. Sort of. She can walk, think and talk, but her heart no longer beats. After being abducted and subjected to horrific experimentation, Jo wakes to find her body is a mosaic of jagged wounds and stapled flesh. Fuelled by the desperate need to know who turned her into a monster, Jo sets off with her best friend Lucy and her boyfriend Eli to find those responsible. But as Jo nears the truth, her physical state takes a turn for the worse and she soon realises she may have put those she holds dear in mortal danger. Just how far is she prepared to go? Will she sacrifice herself, or what's left of her, to save the people she loves?
Leah Soltis is midway through her 40s and is still learning what she wants to be when she grows up. Her career has taken her from an international technology company to the Charleston Literary Festival, which she helped grow into the preeminent festival of books and ideas in the southeastern United States. These days she can be found raising funds for a local nonprofit dedicated to improving lives for families in the towns and cities surrounding her. With a degree in English Literature, words and stories have always held a huge place in Leah's heart. A professional freelance magazine writer for over a decade, she finds human beings endlessly fascinating and knows that, in any good story, the bad guys are never the monsters. They're always the people. She's grateful for her father, who raised her on classic horror and sci-fi movies, and her mother, who always has another book to recommend. They instilled in her a love for her own imagination-what more can any girl need? Leah lives just north of Charleston, South Carolina, with her very handsome partner, her brilliant teenage child, a wise old Schnauzer, an annoying cat, and the weirdest pitbull in the world. She wouldn't have it any other way.
