From ancient times, the utilization of herbs has been common among indigenous people in different parts of the world. The main important traditional medicine systems are traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Korean medicine (TKM), Sasang constitutional medicine (SCM), Ayurveda, Unani medicine, Kampo (traditional Japanese medicine), traditional aboriginal medicine, traditional medicine in Africa, Russian traditional medicine, Iranian traditional medicine, Arabic and Turkish traditional medicine. Chinese medicine professionals have used TCM to reduce HIV-related symptom and signs, and many findings and researches have been reported. However, the quality of this research is not high; therefore, the effectiveness of TCM for HIV-related signs and symptoms is still uncertain, and more studies and researches are needed, specially to find the natural components which are useful in treatment of HIV. The most important medicinal plants which have been used in traditional Chinese medicinal sciences with anti-HIV properties are Convallaria majalis, Digitalis lanata, Cassia fistula, Corton macrostachyus, Dodonaea angustifolia, Ganoderma lucidum, Coriolus versicolor,and Trametes versicolor.
