This is the memoir of one who grew up in a variety of towns across much of South Africa. It is the story of what could be called an extraordinarily ordinary life. It deals with the events and everyday things common to that time and place, with the vicissitudes that go with being a child in that milieu. The book covers the period 1950 to the early part of 1970.

Autorenporträt
Ray Theron was born into a somewhat nomadic lifestyle and later in his life spent time in a variety of places. He has lived on five continents, in some countries longer than others. All his life he has enjoyed experiencing new places, new people and all that comes with them. It is only now, late in his life, that he has come to put aspects of his early life into words, partly because he wants to share his memories with his peers, partly because he felt the exercise would allay that malady that strikes us as we get older: nostalgia.
