"Denise Lajimodiere's fourth collection of poetry, His Feathers Were Chains, tells the hard truths of tribal history and culture, and personal experiences. The title comes from the author's sighting of a metal sculpture--made of welded-together farming implements--of an Indian warrior on horseback. Lajimodiere is an enrolled Citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Belcourt, North Dakota. She is one of the founders of the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition"--
