Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a British author and physician best known for creating the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he began writing stories in his spare time. His first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet (1887), introduced readers to the brilliant and logical detective, launching a series that would captivate the world. In addition to the Holmes stories, Doyle wrote historical novels, science fiction, plays, and non fiction. He was also deeply interested in spiritualism later in life.
