Autorenporträt
Robert Beverley Jr., born in 1667 in Middlesex County, Virginia, was a prominent historian, planter, and politician in early colonial Virginia. He is best known for his work as the author of The History of Virginia, in Four Parts, which offers a comprehensive account of the colony's early history. Beverley was the son of Robert Beverley and Mary Whitby. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in Virginia's political and social spheres, and he became a significant figure in the colony's governance. He married Ursula Byrd in 1697, and together they had a son, William Beverley. Beverley's influence extended to his descendants, with his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Beverley Munford, becoming a notable figure in Virginia. He passed away on April 21, 1722, in King and Queen County, Virginia, at the age of 55. His work remains a vital resource for understanding the early colonial history of Virginia and the challenges faced by its settlers.
