Its name derives from the biblical Leviathan. The work concerns the structure of society and legitimate government, and is regarded as one of the earliest and most influential examples of social contract theory. Locke is also widely regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers and commonly known as the "Father of Liberalism" and Karl Popper is generally regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science of the 20th century.
