This book was written in hopes to engage men and boys to challenge their ideas and beliefs around masculinity and manhood and how they show in the relationships and community. The author uses his experience as a violence prevention educator working with young men and fathers on gender-based violence prevention as well as his own experiences as a Haitian-American man growing up in both Haiti and The United States of America under patriarchal systems and structures to share his perspective and messaging for this book. This book also uses the public health model framework to help readers understand how messaging from different layers shapes individuals ideas and beliefs and ultimately their behaviors, and how the same framework can be used to address social issues and create social change.
