How It Happens offers a great range of diction and emotion and examples Joyce E. Young's beautiful lyricism and her skill for truth-telling. By turns passionate, sorrowful, whimsical, reverential and funny this collection of poetry woke me up, hitting me straight without artifice. Often I felt like standing up and throwing my glass out of emotion, a kind of Balkan/Greek thing. -Robert Pesich
