We inhabit a world fraught with danger and malevolence, where such actions appear pervasive and hard to remedy. Society frequently undervalues the aesthetic dimension of human life. Although many desire meaningful existence, they often hesitate to undertake the self-improvement it requires. We poorly express the mature moral self and are trapped by the rigid moral self. The rigid moral self, created by conventional morality, fails to address the more relevant moral sense, emotion, and behaviors, and prevents individuals, society, and humanity from developing moral health. Today, society often overlooks the moral core of personhood. There is a tendency to prioritize physical and social appearances over inner virtues. Showing strength through appearance rather than character has become common. Higher ideals, noble life purposes, integrity, and character are no longer widely regarded as essential personal qualities. Many people avoid confronting their deep personality traits and hide moral flaws, neglecting the importance of the moral self in shaping our humanity. Anthropologically and psychologically, the moral self is central to one's personhood. Health experts emphasize that it is closely connected to the level of moral health individuals have. Moral health affects not only a person's destiny but also humanity's future. Today, we both individually and collectively suffer from moral distress. The world we see shows more signs of moral sickness than of moral health. This reflects more about people's distorted moral self of personhood than any other human phenomenon. Moral pain and suffering are primary sources of new social issues, problems, and evils unique to the postmodern era. The decline in moral well-being in modern society underscores the importance of cultivating one's moral self. The typical moral self of people today is less effective than it needs to be for growth, improvement, and maintaining moral health, which has broad implications for human life. This work emphasizes the importance of the moral self in shaping our position within contemporary society. It approaches the subject from a scientific perspective rather than through abstract moral philosophy, thereby enhancing our understanding of its complex implications for personal health, welfare, and the collective good of humanity.
