James Mwiti ist Dozent für Geschichte an der Mount Kenya University. Seit seinem Eintritt in die Universität im Jahr 2010 war er in verschiedenen Funktionen tätig, zunächst als Koordinator für Sport und den President's Award, dann als Koordinator der School of Education und jetzt als stellvertretender Direktor für akademische und Forschungsangelegenheiten. Er ist mit Lilian verheiratet, mit der er einen Sohn, Ivan, hat.
