Degenerative phenomena involve hydrolysis of suboptimally polymerised hydrophilic resin components and degradation of mineral-deprived water-rich resin-sparse collagen matrices by matrix metalloproteinases and cysteine cathepsins.

El autor (nacido en Teramo, Italia el 10 de agosto de 1981) se graduó con honores en Cirugía Dental en la Universidad Católica de Roma, la universidad privada más grande de Europa, así como uno de los centros de aprendizaje de la salud más reputados del país italiano, y tiene un doctorado clínico en biomateriales del King's College London, Reino Unido.
