Lesley B. Olswang, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Dr. Olswang is a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarâ (TM)s Award, and Fellow and Honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her research over the last 40 years has addressed treatment efficacy and implementation issues impacting the delivery of services for children with communication disorders, particularly young children with complex communication needs. This research program has included time series feasibility studies, randomized controlled trial studies, implementation studies and dissemination studies. Most have employed mixed methods. Her research has been funded through the NIH, Department of Education, the CDC, and the University of Washington, Institute of Translational Health Sciences. She co-chaired the American Speech, Language, Hearing Foundationâ (TM)s Summit on Implementation Science in 2014. She has co-authored several articles on Implementation Science and Dissemination research in JSHLR and AJSLP. Julie Feuerstein, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Health Professions and Sciences at the University of Central Florida. She obtained her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Boston University and her doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Washington. She completed post-doctoral training in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, with an appointment to Kennedy Krieger Institute's Center for Autism and Related Disorders. Dr. Feuerstein is certified a speech-language pathologist who has practiced in a variety of pediatric practice settings, including early intervention, outpatient clinics, and inpatient rehabilitation. She is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, Neuro-developmental Treatment Association (NDTA), International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and Society for Implementation Research Collaboration. Dr. Feuerstein's research interests center around evaluating the effectiveness of early communication interventions for minimally verbal children with neurodevelopmental disorders and examining mechanisms for moving empirically supported interventions into clinical practice. Her pre- and post-doctoral research has been supported by research awards from the American Speech-Language Hearing Foundation, the University of Washington and Kennedy Krieger Institute's Center for Autism Related Disorders and by institutional training grants from the National Institutes of Health. Natalie F. Douglas, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is an associate professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she holds the Doris Hawthorne/Louisiana Education Quality Regents Support Fund Professorship IV. She earned her Ph.D. in neurocommunicative sciences with a focus on implementation research from the University of South Florida. Dr. Douglasâ (TM)s research centers on achieving meaningful, person-centered outcomes for individuals with aphasia, dementia, and other communication challenges. Her work focuses on partnering with clinicians to integrate evidence-based interventions into everyday clinical practice, particularly within long-term care settings. Supported by grants from the National Institutes on Aging, the Learning Health Systems Rehabilitation Research Network, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, Dr. Douglas leads projects that coach health care staff in foundational communication strategies, enhancing care for people with acquired communication disorders and communication differences. These initiatives are designed to ensure individuals can sustain essential aspects of wellbeing, including safety, health care access, and social connectedness. Through her use of implementation research, Dr. Douglas ensures that communication interventions are sustainably incorporated into clinical workflows, resulting in lasting improvements in care practices. Her commitment to integrating research and practice continues to drive innovation and positively impact the field of speech-language pathology.
