Writer and speaker Joanie Shawhan is an ovarian cancer survivor and a registered nurse. She writes encouraging articles for women undergoing chemotherapy. Publishing credits include Coping with Cancer magazine, "God Still Meets Needs" and The Upper Room. Joanie has led small group Bible studies and facilitated Bible-based classes. She has been a speaker as well as retreat planner. She is a speaker in the Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women's Lives program sponsored by the OCRA (Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance). Joanie enjoys teaching and sharing her ovarian cancer experience with the medical students. She is an active member in the Wisconsin Ovarian Cancer Alliance and her local ovarian cancer group, The Fried Eggs-Sunny-Side Up. Joanie has trained under many publishing industry professionals at Write to Publish and the Quad-Cities Christian Writers Conference. She is a member of WordGirls, and a writing critique group, Friends of the Pen. When not writing or attending one of her book clubs, Joanie enjoys swimming, knitting, and designing jewelry.
