My journey has taught me that imperfection is the canvas on which God paints his masterpieces, using us to unite cultures and make known his vision of unity and truth among humans. I am aware of the critics that point out specific errors of Christian missionaries of the past. Their voices are not deterrents but catalysts, urging us to forge a better path. One of authenticity, dignity, love and efficiency in service across cultural divides. This book is a testament to the relevance of cross-cultural Christian missions. Whether faith is relevant to you or not, the merits of such efforts are undeniable. A mission modeled after Jesus uplifts, strengthens and recovers the dignity, freedom and joy that are often overshadowed by vice and superstition. It is a call to holistic health and growth. Before setting foot on African soil, my wife, Hannelore, and I were doctors and theologians in the making, arming ourselves with knowledge to make our dream of transcending borders in service a reality. Mozambique became our focus, our prayer and our blossoming love. "Why Africa?" we were asked as we revealed our aspirations to our Argentine friends. It is true that Argentina has its needs: places that cry out for medical help and spiritual guidance. However, to serve only within one's own nation is to ignore the call of our global family, a family that extends beyond borders and calls for our solidarity. I invite you to enter these pages with an open heart, to see people of different cultures not as strangers but as relatives who are, in fact, part of our human family. Intercultural mission involves giving of ourselves to others, it takes us out of our comfort zone. It is an expression of true brotherly love, a practice inspired by Jesus and open to all.
