A poem in this collection begins: "Too much time has passed, and I am lonely for a forest." The author of the poems in this collection has a strong affinity for the natural world, as well as empathy for the people in her world. Her fresh vision focuses on a variety of lifeforms, small and large: a katydid, a luna moth, spawning salmon, a volcano...and her son standing near a field of corn, sunlight pouring over him. Close observation, vivid imagery, and a loving approach to the universe find clear expression in the poems here.
