As a young girl growing up in the New Orleans projects, author Ausi dreamed would marry, have a family, live in a beautiful home, and own luxurious cars. She wanted that fairy tale. That dream came true. She married, and they built a home and had cars and money. But she didn't dream she'd experience an unhappy, difficult, and abusive marriage. In In the Oven with the Door Halfway Open, Ausi shares the story of her marriage to a man ten years older than she and their tumultuous life together, telling how she held onto hope, her dreams of a better future, and her Bible. This memoir chronicles the story of a fighter and a survivor, a woman who survived both Hurricane Katrina and domestic abuse. Throughout her journey, she learned she couldn't erase the past, but she could create a future. In the end, she said "I do" to God who gave her many blessings and miracles
Autorenporträt
I realize now, I could not erase the past, but I could create a future for me. I do realize now, that through all the 40+ years of this marriage I pour out all my heart in God. I do know this is how I would explain it all now: Through all my thoughts, my thinking of years of going through it, God gave me the strength to become stronger, wiser, smarter, which turn me into a "gray stallion" who could NOT and would NOT be "broken"
