Long before we can speak or conceptualize, we move. We reach, crawl, roll, grasp, and rise - each motion reflecting inner need and desire; each movement shaping the architecture of our nervous system and the way we perceive the world. Long before we can speak or conceptualize, we move. We reach, crawl, roll, grasp, and rise - each motion reflecting inner need and desire; each movement shaping the architecture of our nervous system and the way we perceive the world. As we grow and evolve, our movements continue to reflect and influence our physical wellbeing, vitality, emotions, thoughts, and interpretations of the world. And yet, movement may become habitual, reactive, and unconscious, rather than responsive and fluid. We develop patterns that reflect familiarity rather than wellbeing; ideals or beliefs rather than connections to actual needs; mental sets and rigid attitudes rather than joy and curiosity in exploration. Integrated Holistic Yoga Movement offers another way: one in which movement is mindful, integrated, whole - imbued with wisdom, intelligence, and compassion. It offers an approach to moving in the world that is scientifically grounded and deeply wise; an accessible, beneficial, compassionate, and intentional way of moving with presence (on and off the mat).Yoga movement is offered as a pathway to embodied presence and thriving: a compassionate inquiry; a journey into insight and understanding; an opportunity for learning and thriving. It offers not a fixed ideal (or outer shape) but a deep inner embrace of truth and resilience; a compassionate conversation between physical realities, vital presence, emotional openness, mental curiosity, and joyful wisdom. Integrated Holistic Yoga Movement, second in a series of three volumes on Therapeutic Yoga Teaching, Clinical Service, and Practice, is a profound look at the transformative power of yoga movement. It delineates a path of action and self-discovery that changes how we move, live, relate, and make decisions. Whether you are the director of a yoga teacher training program, yoga teacher in training, experienced yoga professional, healthcare provider bringing yoga into clinical practice, or dedicated yoga practitioner, Integrated Holistic Yoga Movement is for you.
