The present book entitled 'Introductory Microbiology' is designed to provide students of microbiology and other science students a text that describes and illustrates the basics of microbiology in a concise, user-friendly, and interesting manner. The efforts are made to exploit the potential of microbial systems in development of industry, medicine, agriculture and forestry etc. The language is simple keeping in view the limitation that an average Indian student faces. Microbiology is like sand, blowing away with time. I have made an attempt to arrange diverse areas of microbiology in a simple manner. I do not intend to write an advanced treatise on microorganisms. Rather, i have concentrated on basic concepts of microbiology. There are 40 chapters including practicals and by reading this text, I hope the readers, besides basic concepts, will also gain an overview of the current status of many diverse and interesting aspects of modern microbiology.
