It focuses most particularly on the diverse economic, scientific and artistic accomplishments of the period. Then it studies the disastrous Qing period (1644-1911) lending particular attention to the Muslim rebellions which threatened the extinction of Muslims in China. The final chapter chronicles events from the Boxer Revolution (1900), which saw a distinct Muslim participation, through to the rise of communism, and the fate of Islam and Muslims under Communist rule. This work, whenever possible, relies on primary sources and avoids using recent material, especially works published after 2000. The author will explain why.
