In midlife, Pastor Bryan Manning has been outed as gay by his church board chairman. He has lost his mega-member church, his family, his home, and income. After years of emotional repression, he enters a monumental quest to discover and live his authentic self. The controlled fabric of his life is totally unraveled, throwing him into suicidal despair and ultimate reconfiguration. Development of a sense of place in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, complex psychological and relationship insights, family adjustment dynamics without an emphasis on explicit gay sex, are key elements in Bryan's story.

The author began his career as a clergyman. Changing the trajectory of his career, he then owned an insurance and financial services agency before founding and developing an international Organizational and Development Transition consulting firm from which he is now retired. The skills developed during these decades provided him with a significant understanding of complex human relationship systems, how they function and how they change. The professional counselling, public speaking and writing abilities required throughout his career allowed him to develop a cross disciplinary approach to change and development with owners, managers and staff. This included integrated diagnostic assessment, succession planning, writing training materials, publishing two books along with custom presentations on change management that were persuasive, effective and practical. These life experiences have culminated in writing a debut novel, "It Is Not Written" about a protagonist who in mid-life must release the false optics and content of his identity to discover and live an authentic one.
