Barry is married with three children and two grandchildren. He began his working career as an Industrial Arts teacher and later moved to the University to lecture in Technology. He wrote five technical books at that time, which were used by students throughout Australia.He has been a member of the Scout Association since he was eight years old and has been a registered leader for over fifty years. During this time, he has been both a Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader and a Commissioner. Working with children in this way has given him a close knowledge of children from 7 to 16 years old. He wrote two books for the Scout Association. Up until recently he was a keen golfer, but wobbly knees have put paid to that. He likes to draw and attends a self-help drawing class each week. He also likes to make things and works as a volunteer at the Scout Camp at Glenrock near Newcastle each week.This is Barry's first attempt at children' fiction. He has drawn on his own experiences in growing up and how the bush and Scouting helped him appreciate the world around him. He and his wife have travelled extensively both through Europe, USA and Australia. He has met many people from different backgrounds and cultures.
