This volume uncovers the intricate linguistic, textual, literary, and exegetical insights within the Gospel depictions of Jesus' revolutionary campaign, bringing his story as retold in the four Gospels to life in vivid detail. In this easy-to-navigate, scene-by-scene commentary, each moment of Jesus' story is unpacked with the insights and discoveries that shape our understanding of Jesus as a first-century Jew in a Roman-occupied land. Explore the forces that shaped his world-the oppressive regimes, the religious controversies, and the everyday struggles of the marginalized he championed.Through rigorous analysis, this volume provides a rich backdrop for Jesus' radical teachings and actions, revealing why he inspired devotion in the oppressed, sparked terror in the powerful, and forever changed the course of history.Understanding the real person of Jesus in his own day is vital for grasping the transformative power of the real Jesus today.
