Brenda McDowell is a retired family physician who practised mainly in Toronto, Canada, for over thirty-seven years, caring for patients spanning all ages and stages.For thirty-one of those years, she also provided primary care for mentally-disturbed children ages seven to fifteen years at a youth mental health organization.Brenda learned much from her practice patients and these children around the struggles any child can have with the social connections forged in a school 'playground'.These lessons were affirmed as she raised three sons and as she continues to enjoy and learn from them, their partners, and six grandchildren.
